The project consisted of adding a 9,000 sf addition to the existing 10,000 sf historic library. It has been planned on a phased approach beginning with all Children's, Adult s and Staff facilities on the main floor. There is a Lower Floor which will provide future space for the Children to move into when the time arrives.
The main entrance to the library and expanded parking area will be in the same general location as it now exists. The exterior of the building will be finished with wood shingles, wood windows and a roof with details similar to the original building.
The addition echoes the style of the original building with a circular Reference Area reflecting the original turrets on the building. In addition, the contours of the site have been utilized to create a facade, which when seen from Route 117, will be a gateway to Ledyard.
