Wethersfield Public Library
Wethersfield, CT

The Wethersfield Public Library is part of the 1957 Town Hall Complex and occupies one floor and a mezzanine.  The library and town hall originally shared a common entrance and stairway with the Police Department that was located on a lower floor.  No improvements have ever been made to the complex.

The project consisted of a number of phase to 1) relocate the Police Department from the basement of Town Hall to a new facility, 2) renovate the main floor of Town Hall and the vacated space on the lower floor, 3) renovate and expand the library by relocating the Children’s Department to a lower floor and 4) renovate the existing library and mezzanine.  The project not only consisted of the renovation work, but also coordinating the temporary internal relocation of all departments during construction.

The library now has a new entrance staircase that connects the lower floor where the Children’s Department is located with the main floor that contains the Adult Services, Young Adults and Staff offices and the mezzanine with the Adult Fiction collection, a Local History Room and an expanded Technical Service department. The project is scheduled for completion in 2009.
