The Hagaman Memorial Library has been the focal point in the center of East Haven for more than 70 years. The original building, constructed in 1928, was expanded in 1975 with a 17,000 sf addition. The library outgrew that addition in 1997, therefore, new plans were developed to add another 15,000 sf addition. The expansion is now awaiting financing.
The new addition will be an expansion to the 1975 addition. The main entrance will be relocated to the west side facing the parking area located between the original building and the addition. Exterior materials on the addition will be brick, limestone and a slate roof matching the original building.
The original Reading and Reference rooms with vaulted barrel ceilings will remain in the original library facing Main Street. The remainder of the main floor will be devoted to the Adult library, new materials and non-print items. The Children's department and staff work areas will be located on the lower floor in the new addition.
